Tartweh Region

Interconnection.

The Tartweh Klao are one of the large sections of the Kru in this region of Greenville. Tubmanville is the center of the Tartweh confederacy, which is composed of upper, lower, and middle Tartweh. As one of the 48 sections of the Krao tribe, the Tartweh Kru have their own histories, taboos, and historic sites.

We have spoken to many members of the Tartweh confederacy and visited sites important to the more recent history of this section and to the interrelationships between the coast and the interior. As one of the sections that claims the interior region all the way to Sapo National Park (Sinoe National Park), the Tartweh Krao have distinct relationships as brokers between the inland and the coast.
